The main purpose of this study is to reveal the degree of availability of quality-of-life domains in third-grade textbooks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and monitoring indicators of quality-of-life domains. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, it has been used the descriptive method through content analysis method, and it has been prepared a list of indicators of quality-of-life domains. The study sample consisted of all the textbooks of the third-grade of primary school for the three semesters (...) of the academic year 1444-1445 Hijri, which amounted to (21) textbooks. The study showed the following results: The frequencies of quality-of-life domains in the third-grade textbooks for all domains amounted to (37602) frequencies, and they classified as following: In the first rank: domain of quality of academic life reaching (27,248) frequencies, with a percentage of (72.46%), while the domain of quality of environmental life came in second rank, reaching (4902) frequencies, with a percentage of (13.04%), in the third rank came the domain of quality of family and social relationships, with a frequency of (2008) with percentage of (5.34%), in the fourth rank came the domain of quality of healthy life with (1372) frequencies, and with percentage of (3.65%), in the fifth rank was the domain of quality of spiritual life with (957) frequencies and percentage of (2.55%), in the sixth rank came the domain of quality of independence life that reached to (873) frequencies and percentage of (2,32%), and in the last rank was the domain of quality-of-life psychological that reached to (873242) frequencies and percentage of (0.64%). In conclusion, the study recommended the necessity of incorporation the quality-of-life domains in content of third-grade textbooks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which contributes to raising students’ awareness in the quality-of-life domains. The aim of the study was to compare the anthropometrics parameters of young female volleyball players by different court play position. 52 female volleyball players (indoor court) (mean ± SD age: 15.7 ± 1.2 years) participated in the study. Players were divided based on their playing position (middle blocks, setters, liberos, and hitters (outside hitter/left side hitter and opposite hitter/right side hitter). They were examined in the field for anthropometric characteristics such as BM (mean ± SD: 61.4 ± 13.4 kg), (...) height (mean ± SD: 163.6 ± 7.7 cm), Body Mass Index [BMI] (mean ± SD: 22.6 ± 3.1), waist circumference (mean ± SD: 70 ± 8.4 cm).All data are presented as mean ± SD, and the level of significance was set at p ≤0.05. Therefore, a parametric analysis, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), was used to determine significant differences among positions in anthropometric parameters.Post hoc comparison indicated that height and body mass differed significantly among most groups; however, no significant differences were found between middle blocker and setters (p = 0.20) for height. In addition, no significant differences (p > 0.05) were detected between the setter and opposite hitters (p = 0.55) and between middle blocker and outside hitter (p = 0.41) for body-height. In conclusion this study indicates that significant differences exist among youth female volleyball players of different playing positions for body-mass, body-height, waist-circumference and BMI. Knowing and evaluating the opinions of the high school students on the subject of physical education in order to find ways for improving its development in the high school curriculum. In this study, were included 300 students, 150 female and 150 male, divided equally in the three years of study in high school. A specific questionnaire was drawn up for this study, which contained the questions and data needed to obtain results on the target issues. To practically see the students' (...) perceptions regarding the entry, that is, how much they knew the impact of Physical Education, Physical Activity on their health and emotional well-being, an observational questionnaire was used. The questionnaires were distributed by the teachers, preserving the anonymity of the students. It was explained to the students that their opinions had no influence on the assessment by the physical education teachers. The statistical process was another method that clearly evidenced the results achieved, helping in a more efficient way to provide the conclusions that were intended to be reached from this research. This study dealt with one of the most important legal subjects in private international law that relates to the topic of law applicable to electronic signature and is problematic by the lack of clear and explicit texts to determine the law required on the topic The main objective of the study was to reflect the legal regulation in private international law of such a problem, as well as to address some practical and applicable problems relating to the topic of the (...) study, including the legal nature of an electronic signature, When preparing this study, the researcher relied on the inductive approach by extracting legal texts on the subject of the letter in accordance with Jordanian legislation. in addition to the analytical approach where the researcher analysed and described the legislative and doctrinal positions and international conventions associated with the subject matter of the letter, The prescriptive approach, through a statement of the legal nature of the electronic signature. The researcher produced a series of results, the most important of which was the absence of clear and explicit texts specifying the law applicable to the electronic signature. This result was reflected in the recommendations of this letter, which were the most important recommendation to the Jordanian legislature that legal rules should be drawn up to determine the law applicable to the subject matter of the study. This study aims to explore effective methods for teaching the Arabic language through dialogue and its application to non-native (...) speakers at the primary level at Mara University of Technology. Specifically, it will investigate whether dialogue aids students in acquiring vocabulary. Vocabulary is a crucial component of language, alongside sounds and structures. Teaching vocabulary is an essential part of foreign language programs, including Arabic. However, despite its significance, the learning and teaching of Arabic vocabulary to non-native learners face several challenges, contributing to their weaknesses in this area. Despite being written in 1941–1942, Long Day’s Journey into Night wasn’t released until 1956, two years after the author’s death. The Tyrone family is at the centre of the narrative, advancing the plot and creating further avenues for the characters to develop. The article explores the various aspects of the play that indicate that the Tyrones are a dysfunctional family. The critical analysis of the play and its various themes conclude that Tyrone in “Long Day’s Journey into Night” displays many (...) characteristics of a dysfunctional family while certain behavioural patterns of each one of the family are enough to show that the family is dysfunctional. The article presents a critical analysis of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night. Various modes of reading were employed, including thematic analysis, close reading of the text, and a deconstructive reading of the play. These methods support the exploration of how the Tyrones are depicted as a dysfunctional family. James and Mary’s children, Edmund and Jamie, are central to the drama. Edmund is suffering from tuberculosis, while Mary struggles with a morphine addiction. The play is set at the Tyrones' Monte Cristo Cottage in seaside Connecticut, on a single day in August 1912, from roughly 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. The Tyrones are painted in a highly negative light as a dysfunctional family, as the parents and sons accuse, lash out, and harbor grudges against one another and in various situations. They possess traits that encourage pitiful and futile endeavours as well as strong desires for their circumstances to improve. (shrink)

The eloquence and the continuity of the words and their meaning in the Holy Quran cannot be constructed by any human being, as their order was instituted by the prophet (PBUH). No human being can add, delete or modify this order nor move any verse backward or forward. This research explored the order of meanings related to the eloquence of the verses of the Holy Quran, including a review of those meanings in progressive patterns, to prove the arguments and ingenuity (...) of Quranic brevity, as contained in a scholarly volume Al-Naba al-Azim, by Dr. Abdullah Draz. The research aimed to extract the exact order of the Quranic meanings and connection of this order with the eloquence of the verse. It included the order of tools of arguments, methods to build the verse, the order of Quranic brevity, and the extent of its inclusiveness of meanings of the Holy Quran. The study found out that the order of Quranic meanings has remarkable characteristics like semantic escalation, and the structural coherence and a symmetrical order of all the verses. It was also revealed that Dr. Draz pioneered the argument on the order of the Quranic brevity and the order of meanings that are hidden between the verses. The study recommends to conduct future researches on the phenomenon of semantic escalation, search for the meanings hidden behind the Quranic structures, deduce the silent tools which are used by the Holy Quran to sustain arguments. The study also recommends that studies should be conducted to elaborate the meanings of the Quranic verses that have been mentioned only briefly. (shrink)

In Defeating Dr. Evil with Self-Locating Belief, Adam Elga proposes and defends a principle of indifference for self-locating beliefs: if an individual is confident that his world contains more than one individual who is in a state subjectively indistinguishable from his own, then he should assign equal credences to the hypotheses that he is any one of these individuals. Through a sequence of thought experiments, Elga in effect claims that he can derive the credence function that should apply in such (...) situations, thus justifying his principle of indifference. Here we argue, using a Bayesian approach, that Elga’s reasoning is circular: in analyzing the third of his thought experiments, he uses an assertion that is justifiable only if one assumes, from the start, the principle of indifference that he is attempting to justify. We agree with Elga that the assumption of equal credences is a very reasonable principle, in the absence of any reason to assign unequal credences, but we do not agree that the equality of credences can be so derived. This paper analyses a kinematic model for the solar motion by Quṭb al-Dīn al-Shīrāzī, a thirteenth-century Iranian astronomer at the Marāgha observatory in northwestern Iran. The purpose of this model is to account for the continuous decrease of the obliquity of the ecliptic and the solar eccentricity since the time of Ptolemy. Shīrāzī puts forward different versions of the model in his three major cosmographical works. In the final version, in his Tuḥfa, the mean ecliptic is defined by an eccentric (...) of fixed mean eccentricity and a mean obliquity fixed with respect to the celestial equator, and the center of the epicycle, which is inclined to the eccentric, moves on the eccentric with an annual period. By an additional slow motion of the sun on the epicycle, the true eccentricity of the solar deferent, defined by the annual motion of the sun, and the sun’s extreme declination from the equator change, accounting for the reduction of the eccentricity and the obliquity of the ecliptic since the time of Ptolemy. This volume aims to provide the elements for a systematic exploration of certain fundamental notions of Peirce and Husserl in respect with foundations of science by means of drawing a parallelism between their works. Tackling a largely understudied comparison between these two contemporary philosophers, the authors highlight the significant similarities in some of their fundamental ideas. This volume consists of eleven chapters under four parts. The first part concerns methodologies and main principles of the two philosophers. What is the responsibility of multinational enterprises in international value chain networks in countries with inadequate institutions? In this article, we present an ethical framework that allows for evaluation of institutions at the macro, mezzo, and micro levels. This framework is used to analyze the case of Telenor in Bangladesh. Telenor is a telecommunications company based in Norway. It is the majority owner (62%) in Grameenphone in Bangladesh. The minority owner is Grameen Telecom, which is part of the Grameen group (...) created by the pioneer of micro finance, Nobel Prize winner Dr. Mohammad Yunus. The case of Telenor in Bangladesh is one of many examples of international value chain networks that span different jurisdictions. The case focuses on relevant issues in the value chain networks: the institutions in Norway and Bangladesh, the owners, suppliers, and customers. We highlight the responses made by the major actors in the value chain, and conclude the article by analyzing the responsibility, or "ability to respond" of these major actors. (shrink)

Iqbal’s educational philosophy is not only the solution to the problems that existed in his time, but also holds solutions to the prevalent problems of the Muslim societies. Determination of time-of-death is closely related to the mortality criteria. In prehistoric times, the criteria of death were narrated through the event of the body being evacuated from the spirit or soul leaving the human body. Along with the development of science in the modern era, scientists argue the criteria of biological death and clinical death. This study projected to critically philosophically analyze the time-of-death determination related to scientific criteria. The methods used in the data analysis stage were historical, hermeneutic, (...) comparative, and critical reflection. The results showed that the scientific criteria of death were inadequate to be used in the determination of time-of-death. Time-of-death objectively existed as a separate reality outside of human beings and its existence was absolutely determined or influenced by the existence of other realities. Time-of-death ontologically meant the end of life; epistemologically signified the absence of life and had no mysterious nature; axiologically it was a symbol or metaphor of human powerlessness to judge and determine the continuity of life. Estimation of discharge flowing through rivers is an important aspect of water resource planning and management. The most common way to address this concern is to develop stage-discharge relationships at various river sections. Various computational techniques have been applied to develop discharge ratings and improve the accuracy of estimated discharges. In this regard, the present study explores the application of the novel hybrid multigene genetic programming-generalized reduced gradient technique for estimating river discharges for steady as well as unsteady flows. It (...) also compares the MGGP-GRG performance with those of the commonly used optimization techniques. As a result, the rating curves of eight different rivers were developed using the conventional method, evolutionary algorithm, the modified honey bee mating optimization algorithm, artificial neural network, MGGP, and the hybrid MGGP-GRG technique. The comparison was conducted on the basis of several widely used performance evaluation criteria. It was observed that no model outperformed others for all datasets and metrics considered, which demonstrates that the best method may be different from one case to another one. Nevertheless, the ranking analysis indicates that the hybrid MGGP-GRG model overall performs the best in developing stage-discharge relationships for both single-value and loop rating curves. For instance, the hybrid MGGP-GRG technique improved sum of square of errors obtained by the conventional method between 4.5% and 99% for six out of eight datasets. Furthermore, EA, the MHBMO algorithm, and artificial intelligence models performed satisfactorily in some of the cases, while the idea of combining MGGP with GRG reveals that this hybrid method improved the performance of MGGP in this specific application. Unlike the black box nature of ANN, MGGP offers explicit equations for stream rating curves, which may be counted as one of the advantages of this AI model. (shrink)

Respecting privacy and patients’ satisfaction are amongst the main indicators of quality of care and one of the basic goals of health services. This study, carried out in 2007, aimed to investigate the extent to which patient privacy is observed and its correlation with patient satisfaction in three emergency departments of Tehran University of Medical Science, Iran. Questionnaire data were collected from a convenience sample of 360 patients admitted to emergency departments and analysed using SPSS software. The results indicated that, (...) according to 50.6% of the patients, the extent to which their privacy was respected was described as either ‘weak’ or ‘average’. Spearman’s coefficient indicated a significant correlation between respecting privacy and the patients’ satisfaction about the various aspects of privacy studied. Considering the levels of privacy observed together with the patients’ degree of satisfaction, it is imperative that clinical professionals address both aspects from conceptual and practical viewpoints. The construction industry is estimated to contribute to huge stimulation to improve health, economy, and poverty with investment globally up to US$94 trillion by 2040. However, at the same time construction industry is also a huge risk to sustainability, where most of the activities are performed in form of projects. It causes an incredible threat to the environment and community, which leads to the new concept of sustainable project management. Regardless of the impact, the literature on the topic is still (...) limited and is mostly a systematic review in nature. This study aims to review the currently available literature on sustainable project management, specifically in construction/infrastructure projects, and finally propose the conceptual framework of Sustainable Project Management. A literature review of fifty-eight full articles on sustainability project management especially in the construction industry was performed. The result of the study showed that apart from the limitation of its definition, it covered the importance of how the project management approach should be shifted from the traditional methods. It also showed that leadership, stakeholder engagement, organization policies and practices, technology innovation, and professional association are among the factors that influence the implementation of sustainability projects as new insights in project management research. Journals and publishers are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI) to screen submissions for potential misconduct, including plagiarism and data or image manipulation. While using AI can enhance the integrity of published manuscripts, it can also increase the risk of false/unsubstantiated allegations. Ambiguities related to journals’ and publishers’ responsibilities concerning fairness and transparency also raise ethical concerns. In this Topic Piece, we offer the following guidance: (1) All cases of suspected misconduct identified by AI tools should be carefully reviewed by humans (...) to verify accuracy and ensure accountability; (2) Journals/publishers that use AI tools to detect misconduct should use only well-tested and reliable tools, remain vigilant concerning forms of misconduct that cannot be detected by these tools, and stay abreast of advancements in technology; (3) Journals/publishers should inform authors about irregularities identified by AI tools and give them a chance to respond before forwarding allegations to their institutions in accordance with Committee on Publication Ethics guidelines; (4) Journals/publishers that use AI tools to detect misconduct should screen all relevant submissions and not just random/purposefully selected submissions; and (5) Journals should inform authors about their definition of misconduct, their use of AI tools to detect misconduct, and their policies and procedures for responding to suspected cases of misconduct. The Polish researcher in the field of logic and philosophy, Jan Woleński, in one of his recent articles, "Metalogical Observations About the Underdetermination of Theories by Empirical Data," logically formalized two weak and strong versions of the underdetermination of theories by empirical data (or UT by abbreviation) and with these formalization has metalogically analyzed these two versions. Finally he has deducted that the weak version is defensible while the strong version is not. In this paper we will critically study Woleński’s (...) analysis of the strong version of UT. (shrink)

ArgumentIn theAlmagest, Ptolemy finds that the apogee of Mercury moves progressively at a speed equal to his value for the rate of precession, namely one degree per century, in the tropical reference system of the ecliptic coordinates. He generalizes this to the other planets, so that the motions of the apogees of all five planets are assumed to be equal, while the solar apsidal line is taken to be fixed. In medieval Islamic astronomy, one change in this general proposition took (...) place because of the discovery of the motion of the solar apogee in the ninth century, which gave rise to lengthy discussions on the speed of its motion. Initially Bīrūnī and later Ibn al-Zarqālluh assigned a proper motion to it, although at different rates. Nevertheless, appealing to the Ptolemaic generalization and interpreting it as a methodological axiom, the dominant idea became to extend it in order to include the motion of the solar apogee as well. Another change occurred after correctly making a distinction between the motion of the apogees and the rate of precession. Some Western Islamic astronomers generalized Ibn al-Zarqālluh's proper motion of the solar apogee to the apogees of the planets. Analogously, Ibn al-Shāṭir maintained that the motion of the apogees is faster than precession. Nevertheless, the Ptolemaic generalization in the case of the equality of the motions of the apogees remained untouchable, despite the notable development of planetary astronomy, in both theoretical and observational aspects, in the late Islamic period. هدف از این پژوهش نقد به رویکردی است که راهکار برطرف شدن چالش‌هایِ اخلاقیِ هوشِ مصنوعیِ را محدود به طراحی و اصلاحات فنی می‌داند. برخی پژوهش‌گران چالش‌های اخلاقی در هوش مصنوعی را همگرا تلقی می‌کنند و معتقدند این چالش‌ها همانطور که با ظهور سیستم هوش مصنوعی پدید آمدند، با پیشرفت و اصلاحات فنی آن مرتفع خواهند شد. در مباحثِ اخلاقِ هوش مصنوعی، موضوعاتی همچون حفاظت از حریم خصوصی و شفافیت در بیشتر پژوهش‏ها مورد توجه قرار گرفته است. در پژوهش حاضر (...) با استفاده از روشِ تحلیلی-انتقادی، همگرایی میان شفافیت و حریم خصوصی در سیستم‌های یادگیری ماشین بررسی شده و رویکردی که رفع چالش‌های اخلاقی را به طراحی هوش مصنوعی محدود می‌داند به نقد گذاشته شده است. نتایج این بررسی نشان می‏دهد که همگرایی میان چالش‌های اخلاقی هوش مصنوعی وجود ندارد. همچنین با مطرح کردن سه چالش کمی‏سازی، محدودیت‏های تکنیکی و مباحث فرااخلاقی به نقد رویکردهایی که تنها بر طراحی و اصلاحات فنی متکی هستند پرداخته شد. نتایج این بخش نشان می‌دهد که نمی‌توان تنها با تکیه بر طراحی، به چالش‌های اخلاقی در هوش مصنوعی پاسخ داد و نیاز به استفاده از سایر روش‌ها مانند قانون‌گذاری و یا پیشرفت در سایر علوم در کنار توجه به طراحی وجود دارد. This research aims to criticize the approach that considers the solution to the ethical challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) to be only in design and technical improvements. Some researchers consider the ethical challenges in AI to be convergent, which emerge with the advent of AI systems and are resolved with technical progress and improvements. In the discussions of the ethics of AI, issues such as privacy and transparency have been the focus of most studies. In the present research, using the analytical-critical method, the convergence between transparency and privacy in machine learning systems was investigated, and the approach that limits the resolution of ethical challenges to AI design was criticized. The research findings indicate that there is no convergence between the ethical challenges of AI. Additionally, by raising three challenges of quantification, technical limitations, and meta-ethical issues, the criticism of approaches that rely solely on design and technical improvements was addressed. The results also indicates that it is not possible to respond to the ethical challenges of AI only by relying on design, and there is a need to use other methods such as legislation or progress in other sciences in addition to attention to design. Section I is an account of the origins of what Johnson calls the “Informal Logic Initiative.” Section II discusses how the Informal Logic Initiative connected with the Critical Thinking Movement at the Sonoma State University Conferences starting in 1981. Section III discusses the relationship between logic and critical thinking. The purpose of this paper is to criticize the New Public Management (NPM) in the higher education of Iran with a moral lens. Qualitative content analysis was used for this purpose and the fourth to sixth National Development Plans as well as the Comprehensive Scientific Map of Iran were investigated. The model of NPM that is promoted in the Iranian higher education mostly emphasizes corporatization and the diversification of financial resources, while less attention has been paid to the other dimensions, (...) such as customer-orientation and accountability. The findings revealed that the NPM in Iranian higher education (a kind of pseudo-neoliberalism) is not only incompatible with the Islamic moral goals, but there are also significant contradictions. NPM is based on the commodification of knowledge and the homo economicus, while in Islam, emphasis is on the value of knowledge too, and the truth-seeking is the important mission of knowledge. The political landscape in Malaysia has been changing since the late 1990s with a gradual rise in resistance from civil society and the opposition parties. Domestic politics have become more contentious recently, particularly evidenced by the advent of a strong civil society and a multi-cultural opposition coalition. Thus, the social capital stimulated by ICTs and CSOs has played a vital role in strengthening and empowering the role of the opposition parties in Malaysia. This study seeks to understand how ICT-driven social (...) capital has facilitated the surge in the opposition movement by situating the political use of social capital in a broader socio-political context. Hence the dramatic political change has been intertwined with the dynamics of social capital and creation of a public sphere accelerated by the rapid growth of ICTs in the country. By analyzing recent voting patterns, this study demonstrates that ICT-driven social capital does have a great impact on the changing political landscape in Malaysia, particularly in shaping voting behavior and political participation of Malay and non-Malay citizens in domestic politics. Financial services have a very significant impact on and meaning to the daily life and welfare of consumers. The spectrum of these types of services is very broad, and their regulation is also changing both at EU and national (Member State) level. In order to implement the main or the most relevant EU level goals, such as high level consumer rights protection, consumer trust in business sector, proper and effective functioning of the EU internal market it is essential to ensure (...) clear and sufficient legal regulation, establish responsibility of the services providers, consumer rights and duties as well as promote, seek for the more effective, faster and cheaper ways of solving consumer and business sector disputes. The authors of this article support the idea that the abovementioned goals can be achieved by close and more fruitful cooperation between the EU and national competent authorities, participation in various ad hoc expert working groups, committees or EUwide networks, such as FIN-NET. This article reflects general ideas about the problems arising in the financial consumer services sector, the activity of the EU and national institutions, seeking to ensure fair and transparent provision of such services to consumers, analysis of alternative dispute resolution (hereinafter – the ADR) methods and the good practice of their application in the EU Member States. This article highly supports the application of alternative, nonjudicial procedures and broader application of the means of selfregulation, such as codes of conduct. (shrink)
